Many essential oils work best when combined with other essential oils. It’s what aroma-therapists call working in synergy. But we don’t want to add them up and start to collect, right? Because there will be no end in sight… So here is a list of what I believe we all should have on hand and some examples of how to use them. I hope you will find it somehow helpful.
- Ravintsara – Cinnamomum camphora CT cinéole
If you need only one essential oil, this would be the one. It suits babies strating from 3 months old. It’s a perfect ally to fight winter infections for your whole family. It helps for the following troubles:
Immune system booster

Diffuse 5 drops in a large bowl filled with boiled water in your room
For children, mix 1 drop with 5 drops of carrier oil and rub the chest, the upper back and the foot soles
|
Respiratory infection
|
Mix 2 drops with some carrier oil and rub the chest and the upper back
|
Flu
|
Prevention: 2 drops to appy from the lower back alongside the backbone and on the chest, twice a week
When disease strikes: take 1 drop in a teaspoon of olive oil or a lump of sugar, 4 times a day
|
Cough
|
Expectorant action: 4/5 drops into a big bowl filled with boiled water and inhale under a towel for about 15 minutes

- Fine Lavander – lavandula angustifolia
This essential oil is certainly the most calming and soothing. It helps for the following troubles:
Anxiety

Inhale the scent directly from the bottle when feeling nervous

Sleep disorder
|
Rub 1 drop between your hand wrists and massage 1 drop + 5 drops of carrier oil (coconut, jojoba or avocado) your solar plexus area
|
Acne and acne scars
|
1 drop on a Qtip to apply on your blemishes and scars
|
Insect bites
|
1 drop on a Qtip to apply on the itching spot
|
Muscle contractures
|
Mix 1 tbsp of coconut oil and 5 drops of lavender and add 1 cup of Epsom salt. Pour this mixture in your bathtub and relax for about 30 minutes

- Tea Tree – Melaleuca alternifolia
It’s a versatile essential oil; anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti-viral, anti-fungal. It’s a must have. It helps for the following troubles:
Acne and fever blister

1 drop on a Qtip to apply on your blemishes or blister
|
Vaginal mycosis
|
Melt some coconut oil, dip in an organic tampon and then add 2 drops of tea tree, repeat every 4 hours for 2-3 days
|
Urinary infection
|
2 drops of tea tree with 5 drops of coconut oil and rub the lower abdomen and lower back
|
Mouth ulcer
|
1 drop on a Qtip to apply on your ulcer
|
Physical and mental fatigue
|
Inhale the scent directly from the bottle
|
Dental hygiene
|
1 drop on your toothpaste, once a week
|

- Peppermint – Mentha piperita
This essential oil is your best friend to fight headaches, when you feel nauseous or to soothe itchiness. It helps for the following troubles:
Headaches

Mix 1 drop with 2 drops of carrier oil in your palm and massage on your temples

Hits and bumps
|
Rub 1 drop on the hurt area
|
Insect bites
|
1 drop on a Qtip to apply on the itching spot, cooling effect guaranteed
|
Travel sickness
|
1 drop under the tongue or 2 drops on a tissue to inhale when needed
|
Difficult digestion
|
2 drops on a lump of sugar and let it melt into your month
|

STRICTLY forbidden for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 6 years old, seniors and epileptics as it is neurotoxic

- Roman Chamomile – chamaemelum nobile
It’s a very soft essential oil so even suitable for young children. It helps for the following troubles:
Sleep disorder

Diffuse 5 drops in a large bowl filled with boiled water in your bedroom, doors closed, for 10 minutes, 30 minutes before bedtime.
|
Anxiety
|
Inhale the scent directly from the bottle
|
Asthma crisis from nervous origin
|
1 drop under the tongue and 1 drop on your plexus solar when crisis strikes, to repeat twice if necessary
|
Toothache
|
Mix 1 drop with 5 drops of carrier oil and massage the cheek where the pain is located
|
Sunburn
|
Take a bath with 10 drops mixed with a carrier oil and some bath salt. Ideally if you have lavender, use 5 drops of each for a better synergy.

- Thyme Linalool – Thymus vulgaris CT linalol
Another soft essential oil that is known to be anti-bacterial and ant-infectious. It helps for the following troubles:
Deworming

For teens and adults: 2 drops mixed with a teaspoon of honey or olive oil, twice a day for two days
For younger children: mix 1 drop with 10 drops of calophylle oil and massage the belly before bed for 3 days
|
Cleaning the air
|
Diffuse 5 drops in a bowl of boiled water, leave it in a closed room
|
Sore throat
|
2 drops mixed with a teaspoon of honey, 4 times a day
|
